Omega 8006

omega 8006The Omega 8006 is absolutely a dream.  It is so powerful and has the ability to actually grind ginger, carrots and Brazil nuts into creamy butter.  The Omega is so easy to use and cleaning is a breeze.   Much easier than other juicers.  It makes better juice then centrifugal juicers and doesn’t heat the juice.  Auger juicers do not make so much friction, sparing the vitamins in the juice.
This machine is capable of making peanut (or other nut) butter, however you have to basically grind the nuts (any nut) into dry crumbled mass first, then add an oil to the crumbly mass, stir it up and send it back through for a 2nd cycle re-grind … or a couple of more regrind cycles to get the consistency you want. This seems like a lot of labor, but it can actually save you a lot of money and the nut butter you get is so much better tasting than what you get in jars.  The above works especially well with brazil or macadamia nut butter, both of which are indescribably good, somewhat hard to find and very expensive even if you grind your own.

The Omega 8006 takes literally under 3 minutes to thoroughly clean. Literally. Cleaning it is lightning fast! This is especially true if you clean it before drinking the juice when nothing is stuck or dry.

All of the parts to clean (4 parts total) can be detached en bloc from the juicer and brought to the sink all at once. After that, they just need a rinse. The brush provided with the juicer is the perfect size to quickly clean the one tricky part – the grate.

To me, the ease of cleaning is what makes the difference between an appliance I use every day, vs. something I never bother using. I have used this daily. I was deciding between this juicer, and a few others. I’m so glad I chose this one if only for the 3 minute cleaning time.

Other good points: Having a 15 year warranty is fantastic. The juice from the Omega 8006 is wonderful.  Green juices come out opaque and thick, with very little foam. If you want to squeeze the last 1% out of your celery to be a perfectionist, you can always run the pulp through once more.  This juicer is a star at green juices (kale, etc.). It is also quiet.

One juicing tip I’ve learned this year is to send the pulp through again after it has come out of the juicer. This takes an extra minute or so, and it’s worthwhile because it can easily add 1/3 more juice to what is extracted.  Sometimes I send the pulp through twice. The pulp that comes through after the second run is very dry.  To those who are considering buying a Norwalk or Super Angel because you want to get nearly 100% juice out of your veggies, you should know that sending the pulp through twice on the Omega will have almost the same effect.  Even better, total juicing time is still much less than with other juicers because clean up is so fast. Compare the Omega 8006  Masticating Juicer to others.

Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Omega 8006:
I’ve owned a Champion juicer, a Breville centrifugal juicer, and now this Omega 8006. This is by far the most enjoyable to use, and appears quite well made. It’s not quite the industrial quality of the Champion, but close. If you are looking for a low-speed masticating juicer, this is the one you want. It’s very quiet, and wrings every last bit of juice out of everything you feed it. I’ve re-processed pulp from the Omega and gotten at most an extra few percent of the juice from the first run. Very efficient extraction. The only disadvantage I can see is the need to cut things pretty small. The high-speed Champion digests large, whole carrots with ease.   (J Brown)
